Coated carbide inserts became popular in the industry. But cermet inserts have their advantages in some areas because of the features. Cermet inserts are used for finishing applications in stable conditions.

What is Turning, Milling , Grooving, Threading insert Grade, Angel, Specification, Dimension, Full form, Geometry, chart.

Carbide Inserts are replaceable bit that is used in a Cutter for working on different alloys such as Cast Iron, Aluminium, Steel  in CNC Machines / Lathe Machines/ Milling Machines (Computerised Numerical Controlling Machine).  The main advantage of Carbide Insert is it works faster and that result in more finishing of the Components.

Cermet inserts (Mitsubishi, GNRCERA, Sumitomo, Iscar), or cermet cutting tools (Kyocera, Sandvik, Kennametal, GNRCERA, Tungaloy) offer a good solution for finishing applications in turning and grooving in stable conditions.

Cermet inserts (cermet cutting tools: Sandvik, Kennametal, GNRCERA, etc) were introduced in the 1950s. In those early days, carbide inserts were not coated and the cermet inserts enabled machining at much higher cutting speeds.

But people often get confused while choosing the correct carbide insert as it comes in different size, style, grade, geometry, angel, specification,  and these grade, specification , size are encoded in its Product Code kind of Random collection of Letters and Numbers.

In the 1970s the coated carbide inserts (CVD coated exactly) were introduced in the market. The combination of a tungsten carbide substrate with a thin layer of coating resulted in a product that could achieve a cutting speed not far from the cermet with significantly higher toughness.

Cermet inserts (Kyocera, Sandvik, Kennametal, GNRCERA) offer a good solution for finishing applications in turning and grooving in stable conditions. In this situation, cutting speed can be about 10%-20% higher compared with coated carbide grades (CVD coated), still get a better surface finish.

You must have heard of carbide insert comes with a unique code TNMG160408 CNMG120408 CCMT09t304 VBMT160404 , you must be thinking what are these codes to do with insert specification.

Nowadays, the main roles of cermet inserts (cermet cutting tools) in the market include Kyocera, Sandvik, Kennametal, GNRCERA, Sumitomo, Tungaloy, Mitsubishi, Iscar, Seco.

Inserts are used for different application like Boring, Turning, Curve, Grooving, Milling Etc. Every insert codes has its meaning  in itself , Now we will go step by step and understand the decoding.
