“The latest generation of CoroMill 316 adds a longer cutting length to its list of attributes, delivering even greater flexibility for machine shops,” said Tiziana Pro, product manager solid end mills at Sandvik Coromant. “Specific operations to benefit includes those that demand higher axial depth, up to 1.2 x Dc, as well as where high stability and vibration suppression are required. In particular, the combination of the modular Coromant EH system and CoroMill 316 provides a number of solutions for all types of machines and user challenges.”

Alongside Ratio will be the RF100 Diver series of end mills. With optimised internal cooling channels and continued programme expansions that support ramp drilling, grooving, rough finishing and finish milling, the RF100 Diver has been designed for customers with constantly changing requirements. Suitable for five operations with just one tool, the front and peripheral geometry of the RF100 Diver has been FEM-optimised to improve coolant delivery and chip-removal efficiency. This optimisation delivers 40% longer tool life on sticky materials, as well as stainless steel and heat-resistant alloys.

Solid Round Tools are purpose-designed to support workflow, efficiency and productivity, with each cutter positioned within three product categories: versatile, optimised and customised. Versatile solutions are performance-oriented tools based on maximising flexibility and cost efficiency for the customer, while optimised solutions comprise a unique line of refined tools for specific needs where extreme efficiency, reliability and durability are paramount. Customised solutions are designed individually to meet the highest performance demands.

CoroMill 316 is suitable for all general milling operations, including high-feed face milling, slot milling, helical interpolation, shoulder milling, profile milling and chamfer milling. The exchangeable heads allow users to easily and accurately switch between various operations, creating end mills with optimised radius variation, teeth frequency, geometry and grade. Beyond steel and stainless steel, the tools can also be used successfully on ISO K (cast iron) and ISO S (heat resistant super alloys) materials.

As part of the 100 m2 stand at MACH, Guhring will be demonstrating its PCD cutting-tool portfolio. In 2019, Guhring published a new ‘High Performance Tools for Machining Modern Composite Materials’ brochure, and products from this 24-page publication will be on show. The range of PCD milling tools include 2, 3 and 4-edge PCD slot drills and end mills with through-coolant. All are available with a variety of shank forms and tolerances, surface finishes and coatings, helix and rake angles, and cutting edges.

Also, on show from the Guhring milling stable will be the newly developed Ratio line of roughing end mills. With flat-crested geometry and an optimised roughing profile that demonstrates 60% longer service life, the Ratio roughing cutter has several geometry adjustments aimed at providing performance far beyond competitor products, says the company. For instance, Ratio increases material removal rates using its asymmetrical flutes that reduce cutting pressure compared with smooth cutters. This soft cutting action allows Ratio to perform well on low-powered machine tools, or machines with unstable fixturing. Large flutes ensure optimum chip removal and high process reliability.

The optimal cutting conditions for the RF 100 5-Speed can be found in applications on all tough materials up to 1,200 N/mm², and where a ramping angle of up to 10° is required. Guhring’s latest end mill is also suitable for slotting with cutting depths up to 1xD, and helical milling. Although the RF 100 7-Speed is also a good choice for tough materials up to 1,400 N/mm², the 7-fluted variant can additionally be applied to helical milling at in-feeds of up to 0.05xD per cycle. From a dimension perspective, the new RF 100 5 and 7 Speed are available with cutting diameters of 6, 8, 10, 12, 16 and 20 mm, with a necked diameter that permits cutting depths from 20 to over 60 mm, depending upon diameter.

The new CoroMill 316 generation of exchangeable-head milling cutters from Sandvik Coromant enhances the company’s established Solid Round Tools portfolio by bringing higher levels of versatility and productivity to machining operations in ISO P (steel) and ISO M (stainless steel) materials. Further benefits include high reliability in almost all applications, along with enhanced tool life and a silent machining process.

At limited machine speeds, or cutting speeds limited by the material, the RF 100 5- and 7-Speed are said to ensure high feed rates and long tool life thanks to the increased number of teeth. In addition, the tools can conduct trochoidal milling at up to 10% radial depth of cut.

At MACH 2020 (Birmingham NEC, 20-24 April), Guhring will be demonstrating its milling expertise with the arrival of a multitude of next-generation cutting-tool innovations. In Hall 17 on Stand 400, the company will be introducing its RF100 5-Speed and RF100 7-Speed solid-carbide end mills alongside a number of established milling tools.

Developed for the machining of tough materials, the RF100 5-Speed and RF100 7-Speed solid-carbide end mills feature an increased tooth number. As a result, the 5-fluted 5-Speed and 7-fluted 7-Speed generate high metal removal rates with stable process reliability, even when processing difficult materials, says the company.

CoroMill 316 is part of the extensive Solid Rounds Tools offer from Sandvik Coromant, which today includes more than 10,000 standard products to cover all applications within the areas of solid carbide drilling, milling, tapping, reaming and threading.

Providing high-performance roughing even at large depths of cut, the two ranges maximise feed rate parameters during high metal removal rate operations. As part of the Guhring Trochoidal Cutting (GTC) series, the RF100 5-Speed and RF100 7-Speed are suitable for machining stainless steels, special alloys and a variety of steels and cast irons.

Manufacturers should choose Coromant EH as the preferred rotating modular interface for applications up to 32mm (1.256in) in diameter. Integrated machine adaptors with EH coupling are recommended for small interfaces where gauge line and swing diameter are critical (BT30, SK40, HSK40/50/63, ER, DTH), as well as different shank types in long overhang applications up to 35mm (1.38in) diameter.
