Ok guys.... Material is 4140. I have to drill 10.2" deep from the face (z-zero)with an 8mm drill. Counter bore is .75 dia., .75 deep. I have to tap 1/8-27 on face of the 8mm. No problem with the counter bore. I am "pilot" drilling the 8mm with a short 8mm drill, then using a long 8mm drill (full flute, through tool coolant) to (attempt to) get the full 10.2". The long drill (carbide) keeps chipping. I am following the reps feeds, speeds, depth of cut. Need some help. I know there are some deep hole veterans out there. What manufacturer/drill do you use and what feeds and speeds. Thanks for any help you can give me.
