Tolerances are written as a combination of a tolerance band, signified by an alphabetic letter (E, G, e, f, g or h, with uppercase letters signifying internal threads, and lowercase signifying external), and a tolerance class, signified by a number. Grade 6 signifies general use, with smaller numbers being used for stricter tolerance, and higher numbers being used for more loose tolerances. As an example, a common screw thread tolerance is 6g/6H, which has a 6g tolerance on its pitch diameter, and a 6H tolerance on its external diameter.

The ISO metric screw threads are the worldwide most commonly used type of general-purpose screw thread.[1] They were one of the first international agreed when the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) was set up in 1947.

● As diagram (2) shows, when inclined angle is positive, namely the nose is in the highest point as apposed to the bottom of the tool, chips flow to the areas of workpiece surface that haven’t been machined.

Positive or negative inclined angle determines the direction of chip flow, and also affects the strength and impact resistance of insert nose.

● As diagram (1) shows, when the inclined angle is negative, namely nose is in the lowest point as apposed to the bottom of tool, chips flow to the machined surface of workpiece.

● The change of inclined angle also affects insert nose strength and impact resistance. When the inclined angle is negative, the nose is in the lowest point of cutting edge. When the cutting edge enters the workpiece, the contacting point is on the cutting edge or rake face which will be protecting the nose from impact and increase the strength of the nose. Normally, negative inclined angle should be chosen for tools with big rake angle. This can not only increase nose strength, but also prevent the impact of entry.
