“The flexibility of the concave design allows for minimal changes between these crops, giving farmers the ability to easily configure the concave to optimize performance in all crops.”

“Yes, that can be an issue,” Theisen said, “To solve it, we work closely with our dealers. They know the cropping situation in their local area. Each store sells a combination they have found appropriate for their area.

“In northern North Dakota and Montana and through the southern prairie provinces, most farmers cut all their small grains with three or four rows of the MaxThresh and two or three rows of the MaxRound. When they transition to the more gentle, easier threshing crops, they switch to two rows of MaxThresh and four rows of MaxRound. We also offer a small hole version of the MaxThresh for the toughest threshing conditions.”

“Another unique thing we do is put a tungsten carbide coating on our threshing bars, using a laser cladding process. This gives them phenomenal wear life. We have seen bars that have done 25,000 acres and the working edge of the bars look like new.

The solid carbide shank thread milling cutters can be used to machine any material, including high-strength and tempered steels, meaning their performance is guaranteed even in tough machining conditions.

The latest Iscar LogiQuick campaign has unveiled a diverse range of new cutting tools, effectively replenishing the company's portfolio.

“It’s hard to quantify the benefit of quick change concaves because the setup is so configurable. You can run different concaves simultaneously. There are so many ways to set it up.”

The latest Iscar LogiQuick campaign has unveiled a diverse range of new cutting tools, effectively replenishing the company's portfolio.

At an online press conference held at Trumpf’s in-house INTECH exhibition earlier this year, top managers discussed the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) both on the products the company supplies to its customers and on its own manufacturing processes.

He said the John Deere data is good, but some farmers don’t buy the KX7 for capacity, but because it lets them customize their combine to suit the situation.

He said that while the performance data is encouraging, farmers don’t only buy the KX7 for capacity, but also because it lets them easily customize their combine to suit the situation. “A farmer who’s cutting a couple thousand acres of wheat wants a setup to optimize the combine in that crop. However, he benefits from a different setup if he’s cutting lentils or canola or dry beans. Again, he wants the concaves that are most suited to the crop and the conditions.”

“The MaxRound is a gentler insert that promotes additional separation. You’ll notice again that the bars are at an angle and they sit high, above the frame. This creates a few more edges, which encourages better separation, especially in high moisture conditions. It gives the crop mat just a little bit of an extra shake.”

Ceratizit UK & Ireland will once again be at MACH to bring the very latest in cutting tools and cutting tool technology to the exhibition. Ceratizit is a cutting tool company, whose advancements in the engineering industry mean that it has a reputation for top quality and high-performance tooling. As one of the foremost companies bringing innovation to the world of cutting tools, Ceratizit has an ever-growing catalogue with new developments released on a regular basis. With a vast display of hundreds of cutting tools and workholding solutions, its stand will appeal to anyone involved in metalcutting. True to its ethos as a company dedicated to delivering excellent technical support and customer service, the MACH stand will be manned by more than 40 engineers to ensure that anyone wanting to enquire about working with Ceratizit gets the chance to have a useful and productive conversation. Alongside the technical expertise the engineers will be bringing to the stand, there will be a wide selection of tooling displayed on stands manufactured and machined at the company’s UK Technical Centre. Three particular Ceratizit products being showcased during the exhibition will be: the WPC-Change insert drill, the HyPower chuck, and the MonoThread threadmill. The HyPower hydraulic chucks can take on the most difficult machining requirements The WPC-Change is an indexable insert drill that demonstrates high quality machining doesn’t have to come at a high price. The WPC-Change and Change UNI combine the well-known advantages of Ceratizit’s WPC high-performance drills with the flexibility of an exchange system, allowing for quicker changeovers and reduced material usage. While being an affordable machining solution, the WPC-Change system is also highly accurate, producing precise holes with diameters of 14-30mm and hole depths of 3xD and 5xD on all machines. The wear-resistant holder makes them durable and ideal for repeated machine use. With the exception of the solid carbide indexable insert, the WPC-Change drills are made entirely from reusable materials, offering a low-waste, sustainable drilling solution. Specialised for steel and casting materials, the WPC-Change drilling system will prove to be efficient in any machine. Moving on from drilling to hydraulic chucks, Ceratizit’s expansion of its HyPower hydraulic chucks means that even the most difficult machining requirements can be undertaken. For rough and demanding machining operations, the HyPower Rough is tough enough to take on any challenge, and for optimum accessibility in the machining zone, the HyPower access of 4.5° means it is a highly flexible adapter for machining contoured components. The chucks come in 16 and 20mm diameters for a 32mm cylinder diameter as well as in variations of 16, 20 and 25mm for a 40mm cylinder diameter. These will all be on display at the exhibition in Birmingham. The MonoThread milling cutters can be used to machine threads in any material, including high-strength and tempered steels When it comes to thread milling cutting tool innovation, the MonoThread from Ceratizit delivers impressive cutting performance characteristics. This thread milling cutter upgrade is ideal for all standardised thread profiles across all tolerances and especially for asymmetrical, thin-walled, large or very expensive workpieces. And that in itself can create a problem, he added. With so many combinations, how does an operator know he’s got the right mix? Is it all trial and error, or sheer luck?

“The KX7 units simply bolt in, the same as OEM. No modification. No other changes. Half the width gives more options because it takes two KX7 inserts to equal the width of a single traditional concave. You can run two or even three different inserts to tune the thresher for optimal threshing.

In today's manufacturing landscape, sustainability has emerged as a pivotal focus. As industries face increasing pressure to reduce their environmental impact, the integration of sustainable practices presents both challenges and opportunities.

“Those are the inserts that go into the frames. We have the MaxThresh and the MaxRound. MaxThresh is a very aggressive threshing insert. You’ll notice that the bars are almost perpendicular to the direction of the crop mat as it enters the rotor. That forces the crop mat to lift up and over the bars, versus a more conventional concave with straight bars.

Because the KX7 is half the width of the original, the operator has double the number of mix and match options in configuring for different conditions and different crops, according to Kondex representative Andy Theisen, who brought KX7 samples to the show.

Theisen said the company makes a version of the KX7 for John Deere, called the Convex Revolution. Instead of Kenox half-width bolt-in modules, Deere uses the same concept, but it’s a full-width solid weld-in concave.

“The MaxRound is a gentler insert that promotes additional separation. It does that with more grain on grain threshing.

“In the case of a John Deere combine we have six half-width frames with seven inserts that are bolted into each frame. There’s a lot of ways you can configure that. For each region, we’ve developed recommended combinations suitable for the crops and conditions there.
