Apprentice here on a conversational lathe. Just wondering if surface footage per minute that I was taught to use to calculate RPM spindle speed for turning with the formula ((SFMx4)/diam) is the same is FPM given in the machinist’s handbook? Having a little trouble understanding. If not, how can I calculate SFM from FPM? Or use FPM to calculate spindle speed for turning a part? Thanks!
