Prior to Manhattan, Lavelle served as head coach at Preston High School in the Bronx from 1996-02. He inherited a program that one just four games in three seasons and turned it around into a 90-36 record during his tenure. His resume includes three seasons of qualifying for the CHSAA state tournament including 2001 Class D state final appearance. For his efforts in 1998, Lavelle was named New York Daily News CHSAA Coach of the Year.

Brian Lavelle enters his third season on head coach Anthony Bozzella’s staff. Lavelle returned to his alma mater two seasons ago and will serve as the squad's administrative assistant coach.

Lavelle came to New Rochelle after serving one season as administrative assistant at Manhattan College. His duties included breaking down film along with game planning. He also assisted players with improving their techniques and overall skills.

In addition to his duties at Iona, Lavelle is a purchasing agent at North Central Bronx Hospital. A 1983 graduate of Iona, he holds a BA in Communications and Advertising. He currently resides in Bronx, NY.

Lavelle also served as a coach of the AAU WBA Lady Knicks in Scarsdale, NY. Under his tutelage over 40 of his players have gone on to play college basketball at all levels.

Lavelle will be responsible for film breakdown of Iona and its opponents. In addition, he will assist with team academic issues as well as community service projects, individual player development, and player conditioning.
