You don’t need to set up a nursery or take the time to overwinter shrubs.  Proven Winners® Quick Turn™ liners let you finish young shrubs along with your annuals for a low-risk way to offer beautiful shrubs to your customers.

She encourages grower retailers to try out the program.  “This is a low-commitment opportunity to try getting into shrubs. The quarts are very affordable and are sold in 8-count trays, which lets grower retailers receive a high margin with spring sales. Who doesn’t love a Hydrangea or one of the many varieties in the program?”  (See the list below.)

“From our perspective, it is a fantastic add-on program that is clearly resonating with annual growers because it helps them expand their Proven Winners line and make their operations more of a Proven Winners destination. Our broker partners are taking some of the small shrub samples to show customers.  Once they see them in the quart containers, it takes the intimidation factor out of growing shrubs,” Van Washenova notes.

“Basically, this program allows growers to get into shrubs and make a profit the easy way – by finishing!” she adds. The program has grown quickly in popularity since its start.  “We’ve seen tremendous growth, with sales up 82% in the last two years.  So many grower retailers are trying them and staying with the program.”

“Once growers try it, they typically expand the next year by trying other shrubs and seeing what their customers want to buy,” she adds. “With little effort and low input, growers can experiment and be successful with this program, and many grower retailers are trying it, coming back and buying in more.”

“Quick Turns originated with our partner Spring Meadow Nursery, and the Proven Winners team found them intriguing because we knew there were growers and retailers who want to do shrubs, but either aren’t set up as a nursery or don’t want to get involved with overwintering,” she says.  “This program allows growers to receive plants in late February/early March and grow the shrubs along with their annuals.”

According to VanWashenova, Spring Meadow reevaluates the varieties included in each year’s offering to ensure that the plants are popular with consumers and easy for growers to finish.
