Titanium is considered the most biocompatible metal, thanks to its high resistance to corrosion caused by bodily fluids, its capacity for osseointegration, its bio-inertness, and its high fatigue limit. The metal is non-toxic, even in large doses, and does not play any natural role inside the human body. Used in dentistry since the 1940s, titanium machined parts are now utilized in a wide range of medical implants. And, because the material is non-magnetic, patients with titanium implants can be safely examined via MRI and similar processes; this makes titanium components ideal for long-term/permanent medical implants.

Titanium is exceptionally strong and light weight—it is roughly 60 percent more dense than aluminum, but more than twice as strong, with ultimate tensile strength as good or better than most steel alloys. The material offers excellent ductility, is non-magnetic, and, thanks to its low thermal conductivity, is well-suited to high temperature applications. Titanium’s high fatigue limit provides long working life, even in challenging applications and environments.

We provide precision titanium machining for prototyping and low- to high-volume production runs. Our vertical and horizontal CNC machining centers use CAD programming to ensure that your titanium components match your designs exactly, with perfect repeatability from the first piece to the last.

This titanium part used in the Optical Industry, is a good example of 4th and 5th axis precision machining of a small part with tight tolerances.

We also offer a number of secondary operations to add value to titanium machined parts. From heat treating to metal finishing services, our available secondary operations will save you time and money in the production process.

Naturally occurring atmospheric passivation gives titanium components excellent corrosion resistance; the material can withstand extended exposure to dilute sulfuric and hydrochloric acids, chloride solutions, and most organic acids.

Portland Precision specializes in high speed, high precision CNC machining for a range of materials, including titanium and titanium alloys. With advanced, 5-axis machining equipment and proven processes, we can deliver titanium machined parts and components with tolerances of ±0.0005” or better.
