The hardness of the cutting tool material will also have a great deal to do with the recommended cutting speed. The harder the drill, the faster the cutting speed.  The softer the drill, the slower the recommended cutting speed (See Figure 2).

And if you live in a sales tax state like I do (Vermont) and you can drive to a neighboring state without sales tax (new Hampshire) you can save shipping and sales tax. I got mine around may of last year from rockler. I agree with the others it's just a lot easier to pick it. With the deal on the free wheels or dust extraction guard, you're getting a good deal buying now. Only advice I would give don't buy the 30" get the 36"the T-glide is worth it. Picking it up will save you shipping for the upgrade.

Spring for the industrial mobile base if you have to move the saw on any regular basis. The integrated base does not come close and swapping it later is a tough job. Have them show you the diff before you buy.

Most of the SawStops supply chain issues are resolved and they seem to be shipping again so many store have a little inventory on hand. buying fro a retailer means no shipping charges and if the boxes look damaged you can reject them on the spot or ask to view them before you pay. SawStop is owned by the same company that owns Festool and follows their model of stifling competition by controlling price, so where you buy, on line or in person, is irrelevant as far as price is concerned. The saw will come in 5 boxes. The heaviest is about 250 lbs. If you don't have a a truck, or a friend with a truck, you should rent one. The Home Depot near me rents a truck for $20 for 4 hours. It's a great saw. You'll love it.

On the milling machines we have here at LBCC, the feed is independent of the spindle speed.  This is a good arrangement and it permits faster feeds for larger, slowly rotating cutters.

Drilling machines that have power feeds are designed to advance the drill a given amount for each revolution of the spindle.  If we set the machine to feed at .006” the machine will feed .006” for every revolution of the spindle. This is expressed as (IPR) inches per revolution

Congrats on the saw, I’m sure you’ll love it. Great call on the industrial mobile base. That was the hardest part of the setup for me — getting the saw onto/into the mobile base. But it works flawlessly.

When drilling and tapping, it is crucial to use oil.  It keeps the bits from squealing, makes the cut smoother, cleans out the chips, and keeps the drill and stock from overheating.

I guess this is a long way of saying, if you can get the most direct delivery, local vendor and easy transport, there might be less chance of damage. That would be great if you could inspect the package condition at time of purchase. As I recall, the various components are extremely well packaged and assembly was very well documented and straight-forward.

It’s not too recent but I ordered mine from Woodcraft in Feb 2021 and it took 10 weeks. I just picked it up at store. They plopped it in bed of pickup in no time at all. Getting it off was more piecemeal. It took some time and care, but it went off without a hitch.
