The Waterloo Region District School Board is committed to providing high quality and affordable before and after school programs (Extended Day).

In the 2024-25 school year, we have seen a 27% increase in the number of children in our Before and After School programs. For licensing requirements, we must ensure target ratios of children per educator are met. To do so, we have capped the number of students in our programs for this school year.

Between January 15th and April each year, families are asked to express their interest in having their child attend a Before and After School Program during the upcoming school year (September 2024 to June 2025). The Board uses this information to determine which programs will operate in the upcoming school year, and these decisions are communicated to families in May.

As of September 19, 5,809 children have registered in WRDSB Before and After School programs for the 2024-25 school year. This represents an increase of 1,665 students (40.2%) compared to the 2023-24 school year.

You are not registered until you have days of care showing in the online calendar. Please view your online calendar to ensure the schedule is accurate and note that all future withdrawal notice, or schedule changes for before and after care require two weeks notice. Schedule changes for camp weeks or PD days require 4 weeks notice.

For families and caregivers who completed their registration and received a confirmation email on June 17, no further action is required at this time. The system will be available to make schedule changes starting Monday, July 22, 2024.

The two above were with a 30 deg vbit and a 60 deg vbit but I think I still may have used a ball nose. Each tested also as a raster and a hatch 0.0312 depth 100 line spacing neg 45 angle

We continue to work with the online registration vendor, OneHSN, to process all requests and communications with families in a timely manner. We are working with the vendor to resume normal processes (schedule changes, new registrations). This is subject to quality assurance testing which is ongoing.

To pre-register, please log into your OneList Waterloo Region account. When prompted to pre-register, click Yes and your child will be added to the pre-registration list for next school year. You will receive communication in June advising next steps to complete your registration.

I cut them all using a 60 deg v and again with a 1.5mm and again with a 0.5mm on separate stock for each bit. I shellaced before cuts and stained after… I sanded after dry. I also tried stain first then cut to expose lighter colors by the cut.

BJ I am curious how you set up the tapered ball nose in the vectric tool database. I have fiddled with that once without much success on photocarve. Then I was lead to believe on a Vectric forum that the desktop version of vectric photo carve only supported vbit. I even sent a question to vectric and they responded vbit.

WRDSB uses a pre-registration sign-up method to estimate demand for our programs. Pre-registration for Extended Day occurs between January and April each year, which provides us with a crucial planning tool to gauge demand and assess where resources are needed. However, it is important to note that pre-registration does not guarantee placement, as program viability is dependent on staffing levels and the number of interested families. While we closely monitor enrolment, a number of constraints (staffing, facilities and budget) remain a barrier to expanding our programs.

You have created an account in OneList and need to complete one last step in order to register – you must update your child’s care schedule when the care schedule opens mid June. You will receive an email from OneList asking you to login to your account and update your care schedule. The care schedule calendar will open mid June and spaces are limited so it is recommended you log in to complete this step on June 17. There may be times when a wait list may be implemented. New registrations require 4 weeks advance notice. Due to limited space families must maintain a regular and ongoing care schedule of a minimum of 2 days per week (Before care and/or After care) in order to remain in the program.

Effective Dates: The option for “Effective Until” date has been removed. You can now only set an “Effective From” date for schedule changes. All schedule changes made are from the effective from date until the end of the school year. There is a 2 week notice required for all scheduled changes.

We appreciate your patience as we finalize your child’s schedule. We are working through the process of ensuring all parents who registered by the end of the day on July 12th are processed in priority order and will be sending out confirmation emails by July 26, 2024.

Could I talk you into posting a pic of your toolpath set up? I am trying like the dickens to master this photo carve bitness with only fleeting success. I get what I think is going to be a good image, and then when I try to finish it I screw it up. I sand the wood and apply sanding sealer before I carve, then a couple of coats before I stain. I have used so many different stains playing I can’t count. then when I sand it just never turns out good. Oh I get a pic but not good. I mean what’s the of having an image on wood if the only claim is oh yeah I can tell that is an image on wood! Some of the ones that turned out were on cabinet grade plywood. The first veneer was cut into that let a the darker second veneer show through. I didn’t even stain just poly’d. I get scrap from a cabinet shop friend. I have tried red oak, white oak, birch, mahogony, maple, with all about the same results. I have tried raster, hatch, dense, sparse, .03-08, I have tried a butt load of settings, all with the same bottom line.

The priority for registration is always based on the date and time it is received. Families and caregivers are required to re-register each year. This practice has been in place since 2010. As we always do, we will be evaluating our current practices to determine whether there is an opportunity to streamline the registration process for families moving forward.

OneList is currently experiencing technical issues and has temporarily suspended the 2024-2025 Before and After school registration service. They are working to restore functionality as soon as possible.

The other thing I leanrd along the way is a cmt vbit is not a 0 point so you lose detail and that may have also been part of my issue.

@string11 yep… That is how I did it because the photo vcarve doesn’t allow the ball nose geometry. Essentially I ran about 12 tests with different settings and bits to get what I wanted. I have learned that photo vcarve is not a science but 200% art…

We know that this has been a frustrating summer for those looking to register for Before and After School care. Delays and disruptions with the OneList system this summer have made it more difficult to find alternative care options. We understand and share your frustration with this process.

All families will have access to care from 8:15-3:15 regardless if registered for before, after or before and after hours.

While registration can occur at any time, it is important for families to pre register between January 15th and March 31st to help us accurately assess community demand for programs. Spaces are limited and there are times when a wait list is implemented.

In the 2024-25 school year, the WRDSB has seen a significant increase in interest in our programming and the demand continues to exceed the number of spaces available. The reduction in fees for child care programs as a result of the Canada-wide Early Learning and Child Care Program (CWELCC) has led to an increase in demand for child care across the entire province.

$12.00 for children who qualify for the Canada-wide early learning and child care funding. Fee reduction funding is intended to support children under the age of 6, with some exceptions for children with birthdays early in the calendar year who are 6 years of age and enrolled in kindergarten. There is something special about the look of the photo when on wood - they look really great. I was looking up the Vectric software, and it looks like most have the photo carve feature which is great as I was eventually planning on investing in VCarve Pro.

Haven’t done one in a while… Every time so far though I have done a mix of settings and pick the best. Using real wood vs a mdf or other more consistent substraight definitely plays into the look.

After July 2, days will be allocated based on the order of families’ first login attempts on June 17. Confirmation of registration will be sent from OneHSN starting July 15 and will continue until all of these registrations are confirmed.

So if I use a 1/16 radius tapered ball nose instead of a 60 degree vbit specified in the toolpath, I still set xyz like it is a 1/16 bit right?

Every pic I have done requires different settings and fiddling to get right… Pretty happy with these two. I also have never got one to look good with a v bit. This was with a 1.5mm tapered ball nose.

At the start of the school year, the vendor used for processing Extended Day registration applications, OneHSN, experienced technical difficulties which resulted in delays and disruptions for families and caregivers. Sadly I cannot say there is a consistent or easy way to get the same or consistent results other than testing and trial and error.

I set up mine under ball nose in the Vetric tool database. There is a dropdown that lists tapered ball nose. Enter all the shank diameter, side angle, tip radius, and number of flutes.

Accounts must be in good standing prior to admission for the 2024-2025 school year. This change in operating hours is required because we have been unable to identify enough qualified staff to meet our licensing and program ratios across all sites. By reducing our operating hours we are still able to offer the program for families who need it and meet the ratio requirements under the Child Care and Early Years Act
