Precision flat lapping and other lapping techniques can be used for small parts requiring tight control of surface finish, flatness, thickness, and parallelism.
For example, having a perfect spindle won’t erase the effects of a wobbly collet, and a bad drill can ruin the perfection of the most perfect machine tool. So inherently, you are likely to have a TIR that exceeds what is called out due to the cumulative effects of the tools’ TIR plus the runout TIR.

Been a long time for me also, but I do remember that you will need to change the actual gear on the machine to cut a metric thread. The chart there shows which gear you need for metric and standard. So first determine which gear is already installed. Then look at the chart on your machine for your desired pitch, then set your levers to match the chart for that pitch, the ABC levers, also have to set the lever on the bottom with all of the holes. If this is your first time cutting threads on a lathe, be aware that to stop the thread is different than hitting the foot brake. If this is the first time you are cutting threads on the lathe, machine them away from the chuck. Also make sure that on the carriage, there is a lever that you have to pivot into the lead screw, this coordinates the spindle to the lead screw. This lever usually has 1234 on it. The idea is to engage the feed lever with either 1 or 3, or 2 and 4, never 1 and 2, either odd or even. This will bugger the threads if you don't engage the lever the same way. For some practice runs, just cut really far away from the chuck to get a feel for it, how your lathe works.

If the TIR in a drawing is lower than our machine specs, as well as the TIR of any tools or accessories we would use, we know to alert the customer and decide the best course of action for moving forward.
Therefore, the fundamental concept is the TIR value of a part cannot exceed the cumulative TIR of all the tools used to make that part. What’s more, the TIR values of the tools are additive; one won’t cancel out another, and all can add to or worsen the wobble.
