Any type of drill can be used with standard drill bits for masonry work, but regular drills may not be the best choice for particularly tough jobs. Bits made to punch through tile are very similar to masonry bits, but they're even sharper in order to cut through the brittle materials without chipping them.

A drill bit may appear to be a simple hunk of metal; the average person probably doesn't put much thought into its design. However, there are actually several types of distinct drill bits that vary based on the type of material you need to drill into and how big of a hole you want to make. Wood is the most commonly drilled material, but there are also bits made to punch through metal, glass, ceramic tiles and concrete. They all come in standard sizes based on bit length and diameter, usually measured in metric units.

The most common type of drill bit is known as the twist bit, which is great for tapping into soft wood and metal. In a pinch, it can be used on brick or concrete, but a specialized bit will always give faster results and be safer for big home improvement jobs.

Trifocal 28 is a lens with three vision fields much like a progressive, only with lines. The trifocal is a traditional semi-circle shape.

Coring drill bits are also useful for making large holes in concrete walls. These are much bigger than typical bits and come with diamond-tipped teeth blades to be as tough and sharp as possible. These need to be paired with a heavy-duty hammer drill or impact gun to really put the power into your bore. For deep core drilling, a lubrication system may also be necessary to keep the bit cool as it cuts into the concrete.

Drill bits made to drill through concrete are called masonry bits. These are typically thicker and sturdier than carpentry bits in order to bore through thick concrete, brick or stone without warping and snapping. They're best paired with a specialized hammer drill, which moves the bit in an in-and-out hammering motion as well as the typical rotation. This allows you to punch through stonework more quickly and efficiently than a typical electric drill allows.

Single vision lenses are the most common lens type for those under the age of 40. This lens type corrects one field of vision, distance or near.

The Bifocal FT28 features two fields of vision, distance and near. The bifocal portion of the lens is a traditional lined half-moon shape.

High Index 1.67 lenses are for those with moderate to high prescriptions. The higher the Index of refraction, the thinner the lens. 1.67 is yet another lens that does well with rimless eyewear. Anti-reflective coating is highly recommended for 1.67 lenses. 1.67 will accommodate prescriptions in the +/- 6.00 range and sometimes higher. UVA and UVB protection is inherent within the lens.

Drill bits with a tungsten carbide tip are the strongest; when it comes to solid concrete, the sharper the better. Masonry bits cut holes through concrete in two steps. The tip of the drill bit is larger in diameter than the shaft below so that when the shaft reaches the hole, it fits right in. Drilling at a lower speed is more efficient for drilling through concrete, and it prevents the bit from overheating. Masonry bits with a carbide or diamond tip specifically intended for hammer drills are more efficient and penetrate hard surfaces better and faster.

High Index 1.74 index lenses are the ultimate in thickness reducing resin lenses. In some cases up to a 40% thickness reduction over standard lenses. Anti-reflective coating is included. 1.74 is the best choice for a cosmetically appealing thin lens. UVA and UVB protection is inherent within the lens.

Plastic lenses, sometimes referred to as CR-39 is a lighter in weight alternative to glass. Also more impact resistant than glass, however with much lower scratch resistance properties.

The most current Free Form technology allows the user almost seamless transitioning from distance to intermediate to near. Each HD progressive is tailor-made for considering all measurements to create a custom corridor for each individual customer. UVA and UVB protection is inherent within the lens.

Polycarbonate (poly) is known for its high impact resistance properties. Slightly lighter in weight than CR-39, poly is also a thinner material than plastic, glass or Trivex®. Poly is a great candidate for rimless frames. When lens thickness is a concern, poly is recommended for prescriptions up to +/-4.00

Trivex® like polycarbonate has high impact resistance properties and inherent UV protection. Also excellent for rimless eyewear, in particular drill mounts, . Trivex® has less chromatic aberration than poly providing slightly better optical clarity. Its lower index of 1.523 will make it slightly thicker than poly with the same RX. Trivex® is recommended for prescriptions up to +/-3.00.

Progressive lenses allow the wearer distance, intermediate and near correction in one lens. Our Traditional Progressive is a tried-and-true design that never grows old. Ideal for those on a budget requiring a progressive lens.

Glass is the LEAST shatter resistant and heaviest material in today’s market. Glass WILL shatter when struck by certain objects. Know that there is a risk factor when wearing glass lenses. Nonetheless, it still has its place. Glass has the best scratch resistant properties along with excellent optical quality.
