Fully leveraging the benefits of a high-speed spindle requires the evacuation of the chips from the machining operation. If the chips remain in the cutting channel, it will clog the operation, create poor surface finishes, and reduce your potential feed rate. DATRON developed a unique line of micro-grain carbide cutting tools with a single cutting flute. Due to the spindle’s high rotation speed or RPM, you can have a significantly faster feed rate than 2, 3, or 4 flute cutting tools at lower RPMS. The advantage of grinding a single cutting edge is that you can create a substantial relief or open space behind the sharp cutting edge, allowing room for the chip to evacuate. The single flute cutters come in various diameters, shank sizes, and cut lengths. These tools are not practical in spindles with speed ranges below 15,000 RPM.

For spindles that use adapters, we have a unique, low-cost system of securing various shank sizes that can be secured by the collet in the spindle. The spring steel adapters are expanded using an adapter insertion tool that spreads the sleeve allowing the tool to be inserted into the adapter. Once released, the adapter is secured to the tool shank and can be placed into the tool magazine.  For tools that have shank diameters the same size as the spindle collet, a stop ring can be pressed onto the tool using a stop ring setting tool that allow the tool to be placed into the tool magazine.
