There are many different types of molds that can form products in a variety of mediums. Some of the materials that molds can form include:

Burrs. The nemesis of every hunter that ever lived and will live. No matter where you hunt, there is some kind of burr that will inevitably find its way onto your clothes, backpack, into your car, onto your dog, and even make it into your home. We spend tons of time picking them off everything to prevent them from making it into the washer and dryer to end up on literally every piece of clothing we own.

SelfLube makes components for one type of mold: plastic injection molds. Such molds have an internal cavity that is the exact shape of the part (or multiple parts in the case of a multi-cavity mold). They are split in half so they can be opened and closed. When the mold is closed hot molten plastic is forced into the mold under high pressure. When it cools and hardens the mold opens and the part is ejected. The part could be a small toy or something big like the front end of a pickup truck.

I found the Burr Paw at ATA a few years ago and was immediately impressed by the demo, so I purchased one on the spot. And I have definitely put it to good use!

I've put the Burr Paw to use regularly since purchasing it. I can easily remove the Beggar's Lice from my pants, boots, and jacket without getting them everywhere. Then, I just rub the Burr Paw together over the trash can to remove the burrs and make sure they don't find their way into the house.

Based on my experience, I would absolutely recommend the Burr Paw to anyone who spends time outdoors and may encounter burrs or stickers. I honestly wish I had this in Kentucky, where we always had cockle-burs and other hitchhikers.

While wearing the Burr Paw on your hand, wipe the area or surface where burrs are present. Use it on clothing, packs, shoes and laces, even your pet! The burrs will adhere to the surface of the mitten. Once it's full, remove the Burr Paw, hold onto each end and rub it together as if you're rubbing out a stain. The burrs will fall off. For extra sticky burrs, use the included cleaning card to scrape burrs off the surface. It can also be rolled or folded instead of worn as a mitten for smaller surfaces.

Most of what I've encountered in Idaho is Beggar's Lice (Stick-tights), and if you aren't familiar...it's like nature's velcro! Get it on your gloves, and your fingers stick together. In some of the places we hunt, we leave the woods with our legs completely covered. It ends up in the car, at home on the couch, in the carpet, and pretty much everywhere.

The Burr Paw is a rectangular, flexible mitten designed to remove stickers and burrs off various fabrics and surfaces. The burr-grabbing side is like the loop side of velcro and is non-abrasive so that it can be used on all types of materials.

Molds and Dies are tools that cut and shape material and are in many ways similar. But what exactly is the difference? That’s a question with no simple answer, but we’ll do our best.

In addition to using it on myself, I've used it on Boone several times. Somewhere in the yard, he rubbed up against a weed that was full of sharp prickly grass burrs. Immediately, I grabbed the Burr Paw and wiped him down. I was actually surprised that it removed them from his fur with ease.

At SelfLube, we make components for one type of die: metal stamping dies. Similar to an injection mold, such dies are split in half and have an internal cavity in the shape of the part to be  formed. However, this is where the similarity ends. When the metal stamping die is open a thin sheet of metal somewhat larger than the finished part is placed in it. The die is then closed under great force. As it closes the thin sheet of metal is bent, cut and stretched to form the desired part. The die then opens and the part is removed. The parts that can be made from this process can range from a small kitchen item to the roof of an SUV.
