A CVD coating (Chemical Vapor Deposition) describes the deposition of hard material layers in a chemical gas phase process. At temperatures of approx. 1000 ° C, the gaseous layer components flow around the tool and react with elements from the tool surface to form a layer with very high adhesive strength.

The layer systems (TiC, TiN / TiC or TiC / TiN) grow with a layer thickness of 7-10 µm. Due to the very good adhesive strength and, at the same time, very high hardness, these layers are also called heavy-duty. The chemical process also enables the coating of holes and undercuts to be reproducible.
