Historically, machinists had complete control over all the variables of their part and process (speeds, feeds, tools and method of approach). The person who actually interacts with the machine, the operator, is limited to loading someone else’s program, loading and setting the tools and hitting start.

What about machinists? Fun fact—there are no “machinists” in the traditional sense of the word in CNC environments. Matt Garrison joined Harvey and Company in July of 2023 and specializes in sourcing deals within industrial technologies and agricultural markets. Matt attended California Polytechnic University San Luis Obispo and received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a focus on Finance and a minor in Statistics. Jared Perrin has been with Harvey & Company since 2005 and leads the firm’s investment and advisory practices in food, packaging, building materials, and automotive aftermarket, plus other niche categories. He has initiated over 75 transactions including new platform investments in Oliver Winery (Branded Wine), Mesker Door (Building Products), 4 State Trucks (Truck Aftermarket), Penray (Automotive Chemicals), Juice It Up (Beverage Franchisor), and Liquid Technologies (Personal Care) among others. Jared initiated 14 add-on acquisitions for PlayCore, a client that retained Harvey & Company for over 10 years. Entry Level Machinistsalary

CNC operators set up and operate CNC machines and equipment. On any given day, an operator may unload raw materials, prepare a test run to ensure a machine is working properly and inspect and measure finished products to ensure they meet requirements.

Ekaterina Kupriyanova joined Harvey & Company in 2020. In her role, Ekaterina specializes in originating and evaluating acquisition opportunities and proprietary deal flow in the middle market arena. Ekaterina was previously an analyst in the M&A advisory division of EuroDev and attained a master’s degree in Strategic Corporate Finance from Maastricht University. In her spare time, Ekaterina enjoys athletics, cycling, and traveling with her fiancé.

Jay Houlihan leads the firm’s investment and advisory practices in selected areas of technology including software, telecommunications and tech-enabled business services. Jay has worked with private companies for more than 25 years as an investor and advisor, and has served on 30 private company boards of directors. He was previously a Co-Founder and General Partner of InnoCal, a growth equity investment firm based in Costa Mesa, CA. Jay received a BA in Political Science from Middlebury College and an MBA in Finance from Boston University. He is an active skier and mountain biker and has remained a loyal Boston sports fan even from Newport Beach, where he lives with his wife, son and daughter.

Ms. Tannberg specializes in growth investments, recapitalizations, and debt financing with private equity funds and corporate clients. Previously, Ms. Tannberg worked at OC Financial as a financial analyst. She graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Finance from California State Polytechnic University-Pomona.

Claire Conley joined Harvey & Company in March 2021 and helps lead the firm’s investment and advisory practices in both the Distribution and Foodservice sectors. A Southern California native, Claire graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of California, Los Angeles.

Marco Chung specializes in the research and evaluation of potential acquisition opportunities in the residential, commercial, and industrial building products space. Marco earned a Bachelor's of Science in Econometrics and Quantitative Economics from the University of California, Los Angeles.

Nolan Thompson specializes in originating and evaluating acquisition opportunities in the commercial and residential building & architectural products industry, including energy efficiency, building automation, and outdoor products. Nolan also works in the media and digital marketing industry, helping to expand grow Harvey & Company’s marketing practice. John McDonnell specializes in evaluating investment opportunities in the healthcare industry, focusing in areas such as behavioral health, primary care, and revenue cycle management. To become a proficient CNC machine operator, individuals need a strong understanding of CAD and CAM software, alongside solid math skills, especially in geometry and trigonometry. Mechanical aptitude, coupled with attention to detail and the ability to troubleshoot mechanical issues are also essential for this role.

Jordan Friedman has been working at Harvey & Company since 2020, and specializes in the healthcare, finance, and technology industries. Jordan earned a major in Business Economics and a minor and Entrepreneurship at California State University, Long Beach. During his free time, he enjoys surfing, snowboarding, and road trips.

Alex Lowes identifies proprietary investment themes that are led by industry executives and funded by Harvey & Company’s private equity partners. Alex received a Bachelor of Science in Financial Economics with a Minor in Accounting from the University of Redlands.

Saba Mashayekhi joined Harvey & Company in 2023 and helps lead the research and marketing sector alongside the Business Development team catering to the firm’s esteemed private equity clients. A native of Orange County, she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management at California State University, Chico in 2023. Prior to Harvey & Company, he worked as a Financial Advisor for Edward D. Jones. Ken earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from the University of Oregon. He currently lives in San Juan Capistrano with his wife Zoe and daughter Charlotte.

Hamza earned a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from California State University of Fullerton.

Brian graduated in three years with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration with concentration in Finance from the University of Washington in Seattle.

Blake Wardman and the HarveyCEO team develop investment strategies in partnership with proven operating executives and private equity investors. Prior to joining Harvey & Company, he worked as a technology consultant for Konica Minolta in Los Angeles. Blake received a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance and Industrial Technology from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, where he attended on an athletic scholarship to play tennis. He still enjoys playing tennis and golf, and resides in San Juan Capistrano, CA with his wife and two children.

As with many industries, there are a variety of different roles one can take on in a CNC environment. These are the three basic types of positions integral to CNC machining:

Todd Leigh focuses on marketing and servicing the firm’s private equity clients. Todd has worked in financial services as a technology sector investment banker, investor and marketing executive for more than 20 years. He was previously a Managing Director at Credit Suisse and a Partner at a software company in the asset management industry, HOLT Value Associates, which sold to Credit Suisse in 2002. Todd also spent 10 years as a fund manager and capital raiser in the asset management industry as a Partner at Relational Investors and a Managing Director at Credit Suisse Asset Management. Todd received a BS in Commerce from the McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia, earned his CPA while working for Price Waterhouse and is a CFA charterholder. He enjoys golf, skiing, and coaching youth sports in Newport Beach, where he lives with his wife of 25 years and three children.

A great way to put yourself on the path to becoming a CNC machinist is by completing a training program, like the 36-week CNC Machining Technology program at NASCAR Technical Institute.85

Dimitris Grigoriou specializes in originating and evaluating acquisition opportunities in the healthcare services industry, with a particular focus in physician practice management. Dimitris earned a Bachelor of Science in Finance from Pepperdine University.

Christian Martell specializes in originating and evaluating acquisition opportunities and proprietary deal flow in the industrial products, water/wastewater, medical device manufacturing, and professional services sectors. Christian earned a Bachelor of Science in International Business, Finance & Accounting from Pepperdine University in Malibu, CA.

CNC machine operators are responsible for stocking materials and running parts. They ensure specific directions are followed in order to create an end product that meets the required specifications. This is typically an entry-level position and can serve as a starting point for those who want to work their way up in the industry.

Eric is a Vice President at Harvey & Company and leads the firm’s investment and advisory practices in the Health & Wellness industries, including Food & Beverage, Personal Care, Dietary Supplement, and Recreation. Eric joined Harvey & Company in October 2014 and previously worked as an Analyst at a local investment bank. A Southern California native, Eric earned a Bachelor of Arts in Economics with a Minor in Applied Mathematics from Pepperdine University. Eric lives in Newport Beach with his wife, Kari, and their dog, Heidi.
