Assume a CNMG OD turning insert. Based on the material to be machined, the cutting tool manufacturer recommends a speed of 250 surface feet per minute (sfm) and a feed rate of 0.0004 inch per revolution (ipr). Using these recommendations, the programmer will apply this formula:

Today CNC's and VMC's are mostly used in every corner of this world to machine Automobile parts, Aerospace parts and all the parts which require machining to be done

Feed: Feed is the rate at which the tool is moved into the part or the part into the tool. Feed is measured in feet, inches or millimeters per time period.

There are 3 major parameters which to be considered inorder to increase efficiency of CNC Machines - Speed, Feed and Depth of Cut

Speed: Speed is the rate of rotation of the spindle where the tool is held. It is measured in revolutions per minute (RPMs)

Adding cutting fluid to the machining will increase your tool life as Cutting fluid is much cheaper than Tooling inserts. If RPM is more than expected Surface finish of the part will hamper. So calculating correct RPM and Feed is very much essential for machining operations.
