What is a cermetused for

Cermet’s ability to reduce friction wear is highly notable. It can reduce friction in equipment parts as it behaves like a metal-ceramic conditioner in order to prevent corrosion and wear in machine parts.

Northern Tool was founded by Don Kotula when he began selling log splitters out of his garage.[1] He originally worked in heavy equipment sales at Ziegler, but left when the business began slumping during the 1981-82 recession. In addition to log splitters, Kotula sold cylinders, valves, and hydraulics with his family members assisting in the sales and order fulfillment.[1] The company's first brick and mortar store was opened in Burnsville, Minnesota in 1981.[2] The company also mailed its first catalog in 1981. The company launched its website, northerntool.com in 1999.

Therefore, industries that require materials with great strength and flexibility as well as resistance to high temperature often use cermets. In addition to benefits already mentioned, cermets also have high resistance to plastic deformation and impressive toughness.

A phenolic gasket is part of a flange isolation kit that is designed to operate in a pipeline by providing electrical isolation in cathodic protection (CP) systems with flange isolation. By resisting oil, water and salts, they are an essential tool to minimize future damage of the pipeline. Flange… View Full Term

Northern Tool began its own manufacturing business in 1991 with the launch of its NorthStar brand. Northern manufactures tools such as log splitters, generators, pressure washers, sprayers, pumps, and air compressors.[1] Northern Tool operates two manufacturing facilities along with four distribution centers. Northern Tool + Equipment's nine private label brands make up 40 percent of sales. The company launched a website and mail order catalogue in 2008 called Kotula's, named after the founder.[3]

Cermets are used in situations where neither metals nor ceramics alone would be ideal. For example, metal is not capable of resisting the heat produced in space rockets and airplane engines, although it is highly versatile. On the other hand, ceramics are excellent at withstanding extremely high temperatures. Additionally, ceramics are more resistant to chemical attacks and oxidation, which could lead to corrosion damage.

Ceramic is typically the more abundant ingredient and operates as the binder or base to which metal particles attach. The metal components generally include nickel, cobalt or molybdenum.

Cermet is the term used to describe the combination of two elements: ceramic and metal. It is the generic term for a wide range of composites.

Northern Tool + Equipment (commonly referred to as Northern Tool) is a manufacturer and retailer of light industrial equipment and do-it-yourself supplies. Founded in 1981 as Northern Hydraulics, the company was officially renamed to Northern Tool + Equipment and is the owner of several private label brands including NorthStar, Powerhorse, Klutch, Strongway, Ultra-Tow, Roughneck, Gravel Gear, Bannon and Ironton which make up a portion of its product line. The company purchased The Golf Warehouse and The Sportsman's Guide in 2012 and sold both in August 2021.

Cermets play a vital role in the electronics industry because they can be applied in electrical components. Electronic elements may get very hot, so they must act like ceramics, but they also have to act as conductors of electricity. The most ideal applications of cermets are in vacuum tubes and resistors. Another application is in machine tools. For instance, a great number of drilling, boring, milling, turning and cutting tools are made of cermets.

Northern Tool purchased both The Golf Warehouse and The Sportsman's Guide from Redcats in 2012. The operation of both companies were combined, but operated as standalone online retailers.[4] Both subsidiaries were sold to BHG Ventures in 2021.[5]
