On July 31, 2018, West End Library was renamed Harvey Smith Library in honour of late Councillor Harvey Smith. The longtime West End resident, who died in March, 2017, spent 22 years as a city councillor.
Harvey Smith Library is located in the Cindy Klassen Recreation Centre. The Library has bookable computers with MS Office and Internet access, and free WiFi. There are tables for studying. Photocopying and printing is available for a fee. Scanning to email is free.
The original West End Library, 823 Ellice Avenue, was officially opened on October 14, 1966 by Mayor Stephen Juba. It served as a bookmobile depot as well as a public library. A new 6,000 sq. ft. West End Library opened on February 20, 2009, with almost double the size of the old facility.
