Drill-through allows users to navigate from one report page to another, focusing on specific data points for detailed analysis. This functionality is particularly useful when dealing with summary and detail reports. By right-clicking on a data point, users can "drill through" to a different report page that provides more granular information related to the selected data.

You need at least two datasets or tables where you want to enable cross drill-through. Each dataset should contain the common fields you want to use for drill-through. For example, if you want to drill through based on ProductID, ensure this field exists in both datasets.

Power BI is a powerful business analytics tool that helps users visualize data and share insights. Among its many features, the drill-through functionality stands out for enabling detailed data analysis from summary reports. In this blog, we will delve into the cross drill-through functionality, specifically addressing scenarios where tables and columns have the same names.

STEP 5 : In target enable the cross-report under drill through and drag the common key or attribute in the add drill-through field here section.

Establish relationships within the data model if the tables are within the same dataset. For cross-dataset drill-through, ensure there is a logical connection or common field between the datasets.

Cross drill-through functionality in Power BI is a powerful feature that enhances data analysis capabilities. When dealing with tables and columns that have the same names, careful planning and setup are required to ensure smooth navigation and accurate data representation. By following the steps outlined in this blog and adhering to best practices, you can effectively implement cross drill-through in your Power BI reports.

Identify and use the common fields (e.g., ProductID, CustomerID) that will act as the drill-through fields. Ensure these fields are included in the visualizations where you want to enable the drill-through functionality.

Cross drill-through takes this a step further by allowing navigation across different data sources or datasets. This is particularly useful in large organizations where data might be segmented across various departments or business units.

STEP 8 : once the source and Target file is published it in a workspace then go to source file right click on the attribute and you will see the drill through option as shown below.
