Adiseal Ultimate drilled 9 times the number of holes than the best cobalt bit from Bosch & over 3 times the number of holes than the best cobalt bit from DeWalt.
While some general-purpose drill bits may suffice for various types of metal, selecting a drill bit tailored to the specific hardness of the metal being drilled ensures optimal results.

We tested the drill bits by drilling into hardened stainless steel. Adiseal Ultimate drill bits, drilled more holes than all the other products tested as well as drilling holes the fastest. In terms of durability and drilling speed, Adiseal Ultimate drill bits have proved in tests to be better than the best drill bits from big brands like Dewalt, Bosch, Milwaukee and Bosch.
As well as drilling more holes than any other metal drill bit, Adiseal Ultimate also drills faster than any other bit. In the same test as above, we also measured the time it took to drill each hole. We did this for the first 10 holes and recorded the average.

Select drill bits based on metal hardness. HSS bits (high-speed steel) are suitable for softer metals like aluminum, brass, and copper. For harder metals such as stainless steel and high-carbon steel, Cobalt or Carbide bits are recommended.
Adjust your drill speed to match the metal you’re drilling; slower speeds work well for harder metals to prevent overheating and extend the bit’s life. Ensure the drill rotates in the correct direction, usually clockwise for most drill bits.

The behaviour of crystalline metals and alloys is often characterized by fitting the plastic-flow part of the curve to σf = Kεn, where ε is the strain, K is the flow stress at ε = 1.0, and the strain-hardening exponent n is typically 0.1–0.3. Considering the full range of the curve in each case, the elastic limit (circled) occurs at much higher relative stress and strain for the MG than for the conventional alloy, and n is inappropriate for characterizing the MG. Instead we use the initial rate of hardening, R = d(true stress)/d(true strain), indicated by the arrows. The MG has much higher values of R and of R/σy—so high that, except in close-up (for example, Fig. 1b inset), the transition from elastic to plastic deformation is difficult to discern—and a much smaller total increase in flow stress σf relative to σy. The high value of R/σy leads to rapid saturation of the hardening, after which the MG reverts to the strain-softening behaviour of as-cast unrejuvenated glasses. Notably, however, the rejuvenated and then hardened glass continues to have much more uniform flow (smaller stress serrations) than an as-cast glass. The curve for the stainless steel is based on published data43, and can be taken as an intermediate case for engineering alloys: the value of R/σy and the strain to failure is higher for pure metals and lower for hardened alloys. The curve for the MG measured in this work was obtained on continuous loading under compression.

Faster drilling extends tool lifespan by reducing usage. Slow-drilling bits increase runtime, potentially causing quicker wear. Longer-lasting tools can offer additional cost savings.
To find out what are the best metal drill bits, we tested the best products from the biggest brands. In our tests, Adiseal Ultimate cobalt metal drill bit has been shown to be the best metal drill bit available. It has proven to be the most durable and fastest drill bit in our tests, beating the biggest brands.

If you notice the drill bit heating up, pause occasionally to apply more cutting fluid or lubricant. This helps keep the drill bit cool and prevents it from dulling prematurely.
For deeper holes, use the peck drilling technique. Drill a short distance, then pull the bit back to clear the chips. This prevents clogging and heat buildup.
It’s important to note that some non-cobalt drill bits like HSS bits (high speed steel), including Milwaukee Thunderweb and Bosch PointTeq, were also tested but not included in the chart to maintain fairness (Bosch PointTeq was unable to drill any holes at all in the 6mm thick stainless steel SUS304).

Use a center punch or awl to create a small indentation at the desired drilling point to prevent the drill bit from wandering and ensure a precise start. However, with certain bits like Adiseal Ultimate, this step may be unnecessary.
Adiseal Ultimate cobalt drill bits don’t require pilot holes thanks to their sharp cutting edge, preventing sliding and wandering. They also produce larger removed metal pieces, reducing the need to clear numerous small chips after drilling. It can also drill cleaner cut holes compared to other bits.
To find out what is the best metal drill bit, we carried out endurance and drilling speed tests using a drill press with a weight hung on an arm of the drill press. Impressively, Adiseal Ultimate drilled more holes than the best bits from the top 3 worlds biggest brands combined. (Milwaukee cobalt red) 75 + (DeWalt Extreme cobalt) 39 + (Bosch cobalt) 15 = 129 holes, whereas Adiseal Ultimate drilled 135 holes on its own.
Examine the drilled hole for smoothness and accuracy. If needed, you can use a deburring tool to remove any rough edges.
We carried out the test by using a Scheppach DP60 drill press. The test was to drill as many 10mm holes as possible in 6mm thick stainless steel (SUS304) with each drill bit being tested. We set the drill press at a consistent 400 rpm speed for all of the holes drilled by all of the products tested.

The drilling of each hole were video recorded and timed via video timestamps. Following the tests, the Adiseal Ultimate metal drill bit proved to be the best metal drill bit available, excelling in both being the most durable and fastest drill bit for metal to drill each hole.

As you continue drilling, maintain a steady, even pressure on the drill. Avoid pushing too hard, as the drill bit’s cutting edges should do the work.
a, The test sample is shown in the inset. The stress–strain curves obtained on reloading are offset for clarity. On the second loading (green curve), yielding (indicated by the arrow) begins at σy = 1.27 GPa and εy = 1.7%, and continues to εp = 0.26% and εt = 2.35%; at that point σf = 1.52 GPa, which is the yield stress at which flow resumes on the third loading, showing clear strain-hardening. On the third loading, serrations begin at εp = 0.31% and εt = 2.73%, and ultimate failure is at εp = 0.42%, εt = 2.84% and σf = 1.61 GPa. b, c, Shear-banding is observed only near the fracture. It is clear that shear-banding can be suppressed for small εp and that this suppression is important because the onset of shear-banding appears to be quickly followed by fracture. d, Fracture occurs by shear in the through-thickness direction on a plane inclined at 54° to the tensile axis. This angle is typical for MG failure in tension40. e, Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) traces measured on heating MG samples at 20 K min−1: as-cast (blue), rejuvenated (red), and rejuvenated and then deformed to fracture in uniaxial tension (green). The dashed horizontal lines in the inset show the baseline with respect to which the heat of relaxation ΔHrel is measured. Details about the samples are provided in Extended Data Table 3. The dashed box in the inset shows the portion of the fractured sample used for the DSC measurement of the rejuvenated and deformed MG, and the arrow points to the corresponding DSC trace. In agreement with the results of compression tests (Figs. 1b, 3), the strain-hardening in tension can also be associated with structural relaxation: the heat of relaxation in the rejuvenated MG, 1.25 kJ mol−1, is reduced to 0.64 kJ mol−1 in the sample loaded in tension to fracture. Faster drilling reduces tool runtime, saving energy and additional money on top of other mentioned savings. Lower energy use to drill each hole also makes Adiseal Ultimate the most environmentally friendly metal drill bit.

Adiseal Ultimate has been shown to be the fastest and most durable metal drill bit in a test drilling into stainless steel. It drilled faster and drilled drilled more holes than any other cobalt drill bit.
We used the best 10mm metal cobalt drill bits from reputable brands like Milwaukee Cobalt Red, DeWalt Extreme, Bosch Cobalt, and Makita. To ensure consistency, a 5kg weight was suspended on the drill press arm during each hole’s drilling, maintaining uniform force and RPM. to test the wear resistance and durability, we tested without using lubricants, coolants, or cutting oils, although these can help reduce the drill bit’s temperature and extend its lifespan.

Hold the drill perpendicular to the metal surface. Place the drill bit’s tip into the center punch indentation and apply gentle pressure. Start drilling slowly to create a pilot hole.
As can be seen in the calculation above, it is over 7 times more expensive to drill each hole with the best metal cobalt drill bit from Bosch compared to Adiseal Ultimate metal cobalt drill bit. Based on cost per hole, Adiseal has more value for money.
To highlight potential labour cost savings, consider the time and effort required to drill 10 holes in 6mm stainless steel using the Adiseal Ultimate and Bosch cobalt bits.
The radial distribution functions (RDF) are computed from SAED patterns acquired by TEM. The RDF represents the local density of atoms at a distance r from a central atom. The samples are taken from the regions indicated in Fig. 4b (inset). The as-cast sample is taken from a region far from that affected by the rejuvenation treatment. In samples from rejuvenated regions, the nearest-neighbour (r1) peak is at a higher r value than the as-cast sample. Because no change in chemical homogeneity is observed, this shift is taken to indicate a reduction in density of the MG, as also inferred from the first peak in I(q) (Fig. 4b). The second peak (r2) shows the splitting (shoulder at high r) that is characteristic of MGs41,42. This characteristic shape appears on cooling the liquid through the glass transition, and can be taken to indicate the nature of the linking between the nearest-neighbour coordination shells around the atoms17, with the main peak being associated with linking through shared edges. On rejuvenation, the shoulder at high r grows, indicating more linking through vertices, and the shoulder at low r shrinks, indicating less linking through shared faces. All these changes are consistent with rejuvenation resulting in more loosely packed or liquid-like regions. The labels ×3, ×5 and ×10 indicate the magnification factors applied to the intensities of the corresponding peaks in the RDF curves to facilitate visualization and comparison.

In their attempt to make available the best drill bits, also added to the Adiseal Ultimate drill bits range is the fastest no hammer masonry drill bit & multi material drill bit. It can drill faster than any other drill bit when drilling without hammer function on the drill. This gives it numerous advantages over hammer drills. It will drill into brick, drill concrete, wood and many other building materials. This carbide bit has been shown to be the best masonry drill bit with a hex shank.
a, Engineering stress–strain curves of as-cast and rejuvenated rods. On increasing the stress, the yield stress σy is the point at which there is the first deviation from linearity. The curve of the rejuvenated rods shows a more gradual onset of yielding and a lower σy. b, Superposed stress–strain curves for different rejuvenated rods. The compression tests were terminated at different points, and the total strain εt (1.8–20%) and flow stress σf (1.51–2.41 GPa) are listed in the key. The close correspondence of the curves shows the reproducibility of the results, and the increase in σf is evidence for strain-hardening. In addition, the possibility of large strain without fracture and the very low amplitude of serrations (compared to an as-cast sample; see the inset in Fig. 1b) are clear.
Strain-hardening (the increase of flow stress with plastic strain) is the most important phenomenon in the mechanical behaviour of engineering alloys because it ensures that flow is delocalized, enhances tensile ductility and inhibits catastrophic mechanical failure1,2. Metallic glasses (MGs) lack the crystallinity of conventional engineering alloys, and some of their properties—such as higher yield stress and elastic strain limit3—are greatly improved relative to their crystalline counterparts. MGs can have high fracture toughness and have the highest known ‘damage tolerance’ (defined as the product of yield stress and fracture toughness)4 among all structural materials. However, the use of MGs in structural applications is largely limited by the fact that they show strain-softening instead of strain-hardening; this leads to extreme localization of plastic flow in shear bands, and is associated with early catastrophic failure in tension. Although rejuvenation of an MG (raising its energy to values that are typical of glass formation at a higher cooling rate) lowers its yield stress, which might enable strain-hardening5, it is unclear whether sufficient rejuvenation can be achieved in bulk samples while retaining their glassy structure. Here we show that plastic deformation under triaxial compression at room temperature can rejuvenate bulk MG samples sufficiently to enable strain-hardening through a mechanism that has not been previously observed in the metallic state. This transformed behaviour suppresses shear-banding in bulk samples in normal uniaxial (tensile or compressive) tests, prevents catastrophic failure and leads to higher ultimate flow stress. The rejuvenated MGs are stable at room temperature and show exceptionally efficient strain-hardening, greatly increasing their potential use in structural applications.
Also be careful when touching the removed chips as they can be very sharp and can cut easily. It is advisable to wear gloves if you need to handle them.
Yes, cordless drills are suitable for metal drilling. Opt for a drill with adjustable speed settings and ample power to handle the metal you’re drilling. Ensure the battery is fully charged to maintain consistent performance.

A faster-drilling drill bit not only saves on the cost per hole but also reduces labour costs. This is because less time is required to drill each hole, resulting in additional cost savings.

Cheap drill bits may cost more over time if they wear out quickly and drill fewer holes than durable ones. Calculate the cost per hole by dividing the bit’s price by the total holes drilled. Cheaper bits might have a higher cost per hole than more durable ones. In our test, Bosch PointTeQ’s non-cobalt bit failed to drill any holes, while the Adiseal Ultimate metal drill bit successfully drilled 135 holes in total.
