It's a contemporaneous account of the manufacturer claiming their motor was manufactured in the U.S.A. The manufacture claim is what I remember back 10 years ago.
I had a Delta clone for years with a riser block, and it was total crap for resawing. My Laguna was amazing right out of the box.
Actually the motor was an issue with mine, out of the box it had a loose tie-rod, the threads were stripped so to get it going I put a new threaded rod an in the meantime got a new motor on waranty, it had a redesigned fastening system.
Sure, for your reference the article about the SUV motor made in the USA vs Asia is in this post below. I was researching the SUV and the new 14-12 around that time frame. I do recall Laguna marketing the SUV motor being made in the U.S.A. Whether it ever had a motor made in the U.S.A. I don't know, but at one point Laguna claimed it was made in the U.S.A. I purchased the 14-12 made in Taiwan with motor made in Taiwan based upon the plates on my machine. I'm surprised the SUV was made in China vs. Taiwan since it is a more expensive machine.
My statements made no reference to the quality of products coming from China, but rather that just because the Harvey bandsaw has a similar frame to the Laguna bandsaw with different paint doesn't mean it is the same as the Laguna bandsaw.
+1 also for Laguna, I have the 14SUV that they quit selling but the model with small changes has been marketed by Harvey, 3hp , 1 inch blades and 14 inch resaw capacity with a heavy frame.

Let me turn it around - what documentation do you have that the Harvey bandsaw and the Laguna bandsaw are identical except for paint and guides?
I have the 14” delux Rikon. Set up with a 1/2” Woodslicer blade I have had good success resawing 8” wide veneers. I haven’t resawn 12”, so can’t comment on that.
For re-sawing, you'll want at minimum, a 2 HP motor. That will give you a place to start. Then you can look at price, warranty and other features.
Hey Gary, No offense intended... Superfuts just struck me as very funny. With everything available on the web we got Superfutz!

Yes, my SUV was made in China. The price is higher because it's a better machine... heavier, stronger, etc. In the old days "made in China" meant junky. Today, like it or not they are the planet's factory and the goods coming out are often top notch.
I did a search and it appears the early SUVs had a Leeson or Baldor motor made in the U.S.A., later Laguna the transitioned "manufactured in Asia" on the motor.

I recently added the 3/4" Resaw King blade and it cuts through hard maple like butter. A few quick passes with thin shavings from a hand plane is all it takes to remove mill marks.
Thank you for clearing it up. The Laguna SUV is an outstanding bandsaw irrespective of country of origin. It is one that I would be proud to own.

As it turns out, your remembery was spot on. Here is a scan from my owner's manual alongside a current manual download from Laguna's site today.
My 14 inch bandsaw with riser tanked on me. Have not shopped or looked in years for power tools. Any brand that stands out?Resaw is key so 12 inch capacity is needed. A friend suggested Rikon, you folks have ideas too I bet. Thanks
From the picture it looks likes it doesn't have the Laguna ceramic guides nor the 3 HP Leeson motor made in the U.S.A. I also remember the SUV being manufactured in Europe or Taiwan. My 14-12 was manufactured in Taiwan. I believe all Harvey machines are manufactured in China.
My Rikon (see response #1 above) is the older 10-325 model with a 1-1/2 hp motor. Works for me without bogging down. The thinner kerf of the Wood Slicer blade may help with that.
The 120 volt Laguna 14bx and rikon 10-326 both have 1.75 hp motors. But the 220 volt Laguna 14bx has a 2.5 hp motor. I've had no problem resawing in the 10-12" range with the 220 volt 14bx.
"Where is Laguna made? Laguna Classic Series machines are designed in California at our Huntington Beach facility and are manufactured and shipped globally. The 14|12 Bandsaw is manufactured at an ISO-9001 certified facility in Taiwan."
Yeah, that's why my post said " with different guides..." I don't know where you're remembering from... I'm remembering from the COO plate on my saw.

When did you get yours? Mine arrived in October 2015. The next time I roll it out of its parking spot I'm going to look for the motor plate.
I'm just trying to make sure the OP has all the facts about potential differences in Laguna SUV vs Harvey. I missed your earlier part of post about "guides". Guides, motors and other parts make a big difference in the way the bandsaw performs.

I have the Laguna 14-12, and use it pretty exclusively for resawing. It's fantastic. Laguna is having a sale right now, the first time I've seen a discount in years. I'm contemplating upgrading to the 18BX, but I'm not sure.

Not sure you want a 400 pound beast, but I have an older 18" Rikon band saw with a 2HP motor. It works great for resawing although I've only resawn 9". The manual says max depth of cut is 12". I added a Kreg fence. During a move, the movers used the table for leverage and broke the table trunnion. It isn't the stoutest of metals, but was easy to replace and the service at Rikon was good. I've also replaced the stock bearings with sealed bearings.
